Welcome to our parish website.
Ss Mary and Modwen is the Catholic Church in the town centre of Burton-upon-Trent which is part of the Archdiocese of Birmingham. While the current parish church was built in 1871 the historic links of the parish go back to its patron, St Modwen, who founded a church in the town in the 7th Century.
Today, the parish continues to be a place of welcome and prayer to its parishioners and visitors to the area. We hope you are able to use this website to find out about what is happening in the parish.
Solemnity of All Saints
Saturday 1st November is the Solemnity of All Saints and is a Holy Day of Obligation where all the Catholic faithful are obliged to attend Holy Mass. This year it is transferred to the Sunday (2nd November). It is a wonderful feast day in the life of the Church where we give thanks for the Communion of Saints, those men and women throughout the centuries who now dwell with God in Heaven. Where they have gone, we hope to go.
Times of Mass are the normal Sunday Masses

40 Hours - Pictures
Thank you to all who came and prayed in church during the 40 Hours. It has been a special time of prayer in the parish. Please God, more young men and women will generously respond to the Lord's invitation to follow Him in the priesthood and religious life.
Thank you to everyone who helped in any way for the 40 Hours. So many people have commented, including visitors to the parish, how beautiful the church looked, how moving the prayer was, and how lovely the liturgies were. Click here for more pictures of the 40 Hours.
All Souls Day
Sunday 2nd November is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. This year it is transferred to the Monday (3rd November). It is a day in the life of the Church when we pray for those who have died, particularly the souls of our friends and family and for the souls in Purgatory. We give thanks for God's mercy and love and pray that those who have died may share in the glory of Perpetual light and rest.
