Synodal "Walking Together" Pathway - Update
Dear Parishioners
Firstly, a very sincere thank you to all those parishioners who took the time to complete questionnaires or attend the Parish meeting. The parish consultation phase is now complete. Your contributions have been collated and will be reported to the Archdiocese and they in turn will prepare the Diocesan report for consideration by the Bishop's Conference of England and Wales to prepare the National Synthesis for the Pope's synod 2021 - 2023. Secondly, I wish to remind you all that the “Walking Together” process is above all a spiritual journey. The Church is Christ’s mission, and we must be faithful to his scriptures and teachings as we continue to put our trust in Him and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I will, therefore, be carefully considering the Parish response to this process by seeking the Lord’s guidance in prayer to ensure any action plan is spiritually meaningful. Please continue to pray for this synodal process. |
SYNOD 2023-2024:
At his Angelus message on Sunday 16th October, the Holy Father spoke the following:
On 10 October last year, the first phase opened of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the theme, “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission”. Since then, the first phase of the Synod is being carried out in the local Churches through listening and discernment. The fruits of the synodal process underway are many, but so that they might come to full maturity, it is necessary not to be in a rush. Therefore, in order to have a more relaxed period of discernment, I have established that this Synodal Assembly will take place in two sessions. The first from 4th to 29th October 2023, and the second in October of 2024. I trust that this decision will promote the understanding of synodality as a constitutive dimension of the Church and help everyone to live it as the journey of brothers and sisters who proclaim the joy of the Gospel.
