Sacremental Preparation for your Child - Application Forms
Part of growing in our faith is receiving the Sacraments. As parents, you may remember preparing for the sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation at school or in a parish group. The celebration of the Sacraments are joyful occasions because each time we receive a Sacrament we respond in a much deeper way to Jesus' call to discipleship. In order to receive these wonderful gifts we have to spend some time in preparation. The parish of St Mary and St Modwen offers sacramental preparation programmes to prepare and support children to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Holy Communion and Confirmation.
The parishes current Sacramental preparation programmes for each of the sacraments are outlined in the parish letters below. In addition, the application forms for each of the sacramental preparation programmes are available to download below. Parents or guardians wanting to register their child / children will need to complete the Diocesan application form and the parent / guardian commitment letter and return to the parish office before the commencement of the programmes. Preparing children to receive the Sacraments always offers each of us the opportunity to deepen our own faith and commitment to the Lord. |
Reconciliation & First Holy Communion
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have come to that time when we begin the preparation for your child's celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. It is a special and important time in the journey of faith of your child. We hope that you are happy and prepared to support your child in this process of sacramental formation.
It is important to recall the words of Our Lord Jesus, "Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that that the kingdom of God belongs" (Mark 10,14). Your commitment to always bring your child to attend Mass is an important way of fulfilling this command of Jesus. He will embrace them, he will lay his hands on them and he will bless them (cf. Mark 10,16). On our part, we will do all we can to support you and your child throughout this sacramental formation process and afterwards. So, please ask us if there is any way we can help.
To register, please, complete the application form and letter of commitment (see below) and return to the Parish Office as soon as possible before the start date.
In preparation for the programme, there will be a meeting with parents on Thursday, 23rd November 2023 at 6:30pm in Church. Please attend with your child.
Catechism classes start on Saturday, 25th November 2023 at 9:30am in the Parish Hall. The duration of the classes is 9:30am - 10:30am on Saturdays. At least one parent or guardian must be present during classes and at every meeting.
Do let us know if you need any clarifications or discussion.

Confirmation
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have come to that time when we begin the preparation for your child's reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Your child will commit to be fully initiated into becoming a follower of Jesus. It is, therefore, a special and important time in the journey of faith of your child. It is a time of discovering their faith in God. Your child will now speak for themselves, declaring what they believe and their choice to be followers of Jesus. We hope that you are happy and prepared to support your child in this process. On our part, we will do all we can to support you and your child throughout this sacramental formation process and afterwards. So, please ask us if there is any way we can help.
