The Jubilee Choir
This is a traditional choir which sings at the 11 am Sunday Mass two or three times a month. It was formed in 2000 by Darquise Bilodeau, a professional singer, and is now led by by Sue Smith.
The choir sings the Gloria, Sanctus and other parts of the Mass, using music from a variety of composers. We also sing the psalm and a Communion anthem, and are accompanied by a professional organist. Christmas and Holy Week are very busy times for the choir, as we sing at Christmas Midnight Mass preceded by a service of readings and carols, and also all the services in the Triduum in Holy Week. In 2013 we also sang at the 11 am Mass on Easter Sunday for the first time. Rehearsals are on Monday evenings, 7.45 – 9.15 pm, and also before the services we are taking part in. The anthems, traditional or modern, are often sung in three parts, sopranos altos and men. However no previous singing experience, beyond a love of singing hymns in church, is required and new members are always welcomed. Choir members are very committed to serving the parish in this way and several of them have been with the choir since its formation. The Jubilee Choir is sometimes asked to sing at weddings, and occasionally funerals, which we will do for a small fee providing enough members are available. |
